zkBob USDC pool on Polygon sunsets January 31, 2025

The zkBob USDC pool on Polygon will officially sunset on January 31, 2025. There will no longer be team support available for the Polygon pool, and users should withdraw their funds before this date. zkBob is open source, and the infrastructure for this pool may be supported by the community or other development teams in the future if interested. The Optimism pool will still be accessible at https://app.zkbob.com/

zkBob launched on Polygon in September of 2022. Initially started as a BOB stablecoin pool, the pool migrated to a USDC pool in 2023 after community discussion and a successful migration proposal (GP 14).

This change was implemented to attract more usage by adopting a standard stablecoin for privacy. This change also allowed zkBob to function more as a privacy wallet, where USDC could be stored privately for usage as well as transferred privately among users. While the pool size and operations increased moderately (with a high of over 2000 transfers in August of 2023), usage quickly plateaued and has declined markedly through 2024.

Along with transfers and usage, the amount of USDC in the pool has also steadily declined. Unfortunately, the team can no longer support the Polygon infrastructure based on this lack of usage.

zkBob on Polygon will remain live until January 31, 2025 with limited USDC funds remaining in the pool. It is important for all users to withdraw their USDC prior to the January 31, 2025 date. Funds that remain in the pool after that date may not be accessible. A countdown timer has been added to the application on Polygon to remind users about this announcement and to withdraw funds.
